How much hand luggage can you carry at Eurowings?

Eurowings offers four different fares: BASIC, SMART, BEST and BIZclass

However, the BEST fare is only available on long-haul flights.

The amount of carry-on baggage you are allowed to carry on each fare is as follows:

BASIC & SMART
  • One large piece of hand luggage, max. dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm, maximum weight 8 kg
  • A small piece of hand luggage (also called a personal item), max. dimensions 40 x 30 x 10 cm, e.g. a laptop bag with laptop, a handbag or briefcase
  • Travellers with children may also bring a baby basket OR a child car seat OR a buggy in addition to the regular carry-on baggage (these items will be transported in the aircraft’s hold with the exception of the child seat)

BIZClass
  • Two large pieces of hand luggage, max. dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm, maximum weight 8 kg each
  • A small piece of hand luggage (also called a personal item), max. dimensions 40 x 30 x 10 cm, e.g. a laptop bag with laptop, a handbag or briefcase
  • Travellers with children may also bring a baby basket OR a child car seat OR a buggy in addition to this carry-on baggage (these items will be transported in the aircraft’s hold with the exception of the child seat)

BEST (only available on certain long-haul routes)
  • Two large pieces of hand luggage, max. dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm, maximum weight 8 kg each
  • A small piece of hand luggage (also called a personal item), max. dimensions 40 x 30 x 10 cm, e.g. a laptop bag with laptop, a handbag or briefcase
  • Travellers with children may also bring a baby basket OR a child car seat OR a buggy in addition to this carry-on baggage (these items will be transported in the aircraft’s hold with the exception of the child seat)

Foldable garment bags at Eurowings: Regulations

Exception: If you want to carry a foldable garment bag as hand luggage, it must not be larger than 57 x 54 x 15 cm. This regulation applies to all tariffs: BASIC, SMART, BEST and BIZclass.

Eurowings: Additional hand luggage for babies?

If you travel with a baby, you can bring a baby basket or a child car seat or a buggy (transport in the cargo compartment) for the baby, but you are not entitled to another regular piece of hand luggage such as an additional handbag for the baby’s things.

Eurowings: Hand Luggage for Blind Booking Flights

Eurowings also offers blind booking flights. On these flights, passengers do not know where they are going until shortly before the flight. On the one hand, this creates excitement and, on the other, Blind Bookers benefit from lower prices.

Passengers usually only choose the departure airport, the desired travel times and one (or more) possible holiday category.

What about hand luggage and blind booking? Are there any differences to the regular free hand baggage allowance?

In principle, the same rules apply to hand luggage as for normal flights in the standard fare. On blind booking flights you are allowed to bring the following hand luggage:

  • One large piece of hand luggage, max. dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm, maximum weight 8 kg
  • A small piece of hand luggage (also called a personal item), max. dimensions 40 x 30 x 10 cm, e.g. a laptop bag with laptop, a handbag or briefcase

In addition, only hand luggage is included in the price of Bind-Booking flights. Checked baggage can, of course, be booked for an extra charge.

Liquids in hand luggage at Eurowings

As far as liquids in hand luggage are concerned, there are very clear regulations in Europe which are implemented by all airlines. Many countries outside Europe (e.g. the USA) also adhere strictly to these regulations.

For liquids in hand luggage, this also applies to Eurowings flights:

  • All liquids must be stored in the plastic bag for liquids
  • The liquid containers must not hold more than 100 ml
  • The liquid bag must not be larger than 20 x 20 cm
  • The bag must also be transparent and resealable
  • Only one such bag for liquids per person is permitted

You can find out where you can get such a bag for liquids in our informative article: Liquid bags | Hand Luggage

Baby food and liquid medicines at Eurowings

As always, baby food and liquid medication needed for the flight are excluded from the rule for liquids in hand luggage.

You may therefore also bring these on board in larger quantities than 100 ml per container, as long as this is required for the flight.

Did you know that many airlines do not allow babies to travel by air until they are a certain age? However, Eurowings has not set a minimum age in this context. For easyJet, Vueling and SWISS, the minimum age is 7 days.

The babies are therefore allowed to fly there from the 8th day of their life.

Animals aboard the aircraft @Eurowings

Eurowings only carries dogs and cats.

Eurowings also carries these pets exclusively in the cabin. Transport in the cargo compartment is not possible.

So if you would like to take your Wauwau or your house tiger with you on your journey, then you are welcome to do so with a flight from Eurowings. However, there are a few things you need to keep in mind to ensure that your trip goes smoothly:

  • The animal must not weigh more than 8 kilograms, including the transport bag
  • The animal must be able to stand upright in the bag
  • Your dog/cat must be able to turn around in the transport bag and lie in a natural position. The bag must not exceed the dimensions 40 x 40 x 25.5 cm.
  • The bag must also be waterproof, bite resistant, closable and air-permeable
  • Only one animal per bag is permitted, and each person may carry no more than one such bag
  • The animal must be in the bag during the whole flight
  • You must register your pet (dog or cat) for the flight. You can do this either during the booking process (in step 2 under “Other services”) or after the booking process under “My flight”. You can also register via the Eurowings Call Center.

Eurowings does not make a concrete recommendation for a transport bag. As far as the requirements for transport bags for the transport of dogs/cats in the cabin are concerned, these are less stringent than the requirements for transport containers for the transport of dogs/cats in the hold.

For example, you can find an appropriate bag for transporting your pet in the cabin of the aircraft on Amazon.

As we have seen, Eurowings does not transport pets in the hold of the aircraft. However, many other airlines do. So, if you are flying with another airline, I would like to point out that if your dog is flying in the hold, you need to make sure that the container meets IATA requirements.

In addition, your pet must have an EU pet passport and be marked with a microchip or a tattoo (no longer permitted).

As usual with all airlines, Eurowings also carries assistance and guide dogs. As usual, these must be certified assistance and guide dogs.

At Eurowings, only one such assistance or guide dog can travel per flight.

In addition, such dogs must also be registered in advance. The best way to register your dog is to use Eurowing’s contact form.

Transporting Musical Instruments in the Eurowings cabin

Musical instruments can be carried in hand luggage at Eurowings. However, there are many rules to be observed.

While most airlines use the same standards for musical instruments as for regular hand luggage, i.e. musical instruments may not be larger than a regular piece of hand luggage, Eurowings gives the guitar as a guideline for the maximum size of a musical instrument in the cabin.

Eurowings allows musical instruments to be carried in hand luggage as long as they are not larger than a guitar. However, Eurowings does not define exactly how large this standard guitar should be.

I have again checked with Eurowings and said: “The dimensions of a standard guitar are valid”. However, Eurowings did not want to give a guideline value (dimensions) for such a guitar.

Anything that is larger may only be taken into the cabin if an additional seat has been booked. That is standard procedure because that applies to practically all airlines. The additional seats are particularly suitable for cellos, as they are the optimal size to be transported on one seat.

Double basses can only be transported as checked baggage (hard case a must). This is also common.

If you are going on a flight with a musical instrument, you should definitely read our article “9 Tips for carrying musical instruments on airplanes” because flights with a musical instrument need to be well planned. Unfortunately, a lot can go wrong.

Note: These regulations apply to all Eurowings flights with an EW or 4U flight number, regardless of the operating airline. For flights without such a number, the regulations of the respective Eurowings partner airline must be observed.
